Residential Installation
Homeowners in Ontario typically choose grid-tied solar with or without battery backup.
1. Grid-Tied Solar (Net Metering)
Size: 5kW–10kW (covers 60–80% of home energy use)
Output: A 7kW system generates ~8,000 kWh/year in Southern Ontario (Hydro One, 2023).
Benefit: Sends excess power to the grid for bill credits, lowering costs.
2. Hybrid Solar (Grid-Tied + Battery Backup)
Size: 8kW–15kW with 10–15 kWh batteries (Tesla Powerwall, Enphase IQ).
Benefit: Stores energy for nighttime use and power outages, increasing energy independence.
Why Solar Works in Ontario
✔ 1,200–1,400 peak sunlight hours/year (NRCan, 2023)
✔ Net Metering cuts utility costs as rates rise ~2–4% annually
✔ Battery backup protects against blackouts
Both options reduce costs, increase home value, and lower carbon footprints.
